Harvestability and Consumption of Traditional Foods

Writer's picture: Sarah CaristaSarah Carista

Changes in food security, driven by climate change, have had sever impacts on the Inuit communities in the western Canadian arctic. It is important to note that climate change disproportionately impacts indigenous people who rely on traditional forms of agriculture and harvesting. As the Inuit communities experience ecological shifts in arctic fauna, they become vulnerable to decreased economies that they have built up around arctic wildlife, decreases in the nutritional values in their diets, decreases in mental health, and decrease in other aspects of well-being.
